Sea Marshal Course No 1 of CIMSTA in affiliation with Mahapola Ports & Maritime Academy(MPMA) was commenced on 18th June 2020 at CIMSTA. The course No 1 is designed for 27 days and commenced with a simple low key profile opening Ceremony with the participation of the Director Training of CIMSTA, Deputy Director Maritime of RALL and the Team CIMSTA taking the prevailing conditions of the country Team CIMSTA made all the arrangements for a warm welcome with well arranged reception and registration on the day before.
Batch of 25 trainees all are Ex Servicemen representing Army, Navy and Airforce with vast Experiences in their professions has joined hands with RALL the top rated security provider in Sri Lanka and provision of Professional Sea marshals for Private Maritime Security Companies(PMSC) around the world.
The course is focused to open new avenues for employment opportunities for the training in On Board Security Teams in Sea going small, medium scale and oil vessels in the troubled seas around the world. The course will facilitate by 6 basic training modules at MPMA and also mandatory medical examinations required for obtaining Continuos Discharge Certificate (CDC) for employ as Sea marshals. 6 modules are ; Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques (Standard of Certificate on Training Watchkeeping – SCTW), proficiency in Personal Safety & Social Responsibility ( SCTW), Proficiency in Security Awareness Programme, Maritime English Language Course ( Support Level), Proficiency in Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting, Proficiency inElementary First Aid.
The 3 Compulsory Medical Test are ; Seaferers Medical Fitness Certification, Psychlogocal Evaluation Report and Drug and Alchohol Report.
In addition the course curriculum is designed with Personal Development, Attitudinal Development, Private Security Procedure, Act, Fundamentals of Criminal Procedure, Rights of Self Defence, and Rights of a Private Security Officer and Sea Marshal at CIMSTA. The course curriculum is well focussed to prepare a highly skilled and professional Sea marshal to take up most demanding highly recognised challenging employment in the field of maritime on board security. The course will also expose the trainees on Maritime Trauma Care Programme which is an additional qualification for more viable Sea marshal opportunities in PMSCs. The course will be completed with a weapon handling leg with live firing and also a visit to on board ship at SL Coast Guard.
With the moto of the CIMSTA ‘Effectiveness Through Professional Training’ and the CIMSTA’s highly experienced, fully qualified and trained team members are former military and law enforcement pecial Forces personnel are fully geared and confident on producing a fully fledged professional Sea marshals.
End of the course every successful trainee will be awarded with a certificate from MPMA, And VTA certified certification in addition to the qualification required for obtaining CDC.
