The webinar series for enthusiastic law students who would like to pursue law was started on 26th of April and concluded successfully on this 31st of May. It was sponsored & organized by CIMSTA; the training academy of Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Ltd. The objective of the programme was for ‘helping hands for fulfilling the potential of the future generation’. The series focused mainly on law students of law college, law graduates of local and foreign universities and barristers preparing for law examinations. This programme was initiated by CIMSTA during this timely hour when the nation is in need of continuation of future generations who will take the lead in the nation. The series of the webinar for law students is the initial step and CIMSTA is in its process in preparing for expanding towards other disciplines in higher education as well as a social awareness in neighbour law as responsible citizens.

The entire webinar series was free of charge, exclusively sponsored by CIMSTA .

Dr W. D. Rodrigo

Former Principal of Sri Lanka Law College

Dr. W. D. Rodrigo, President’s Counsel who was the Principal of Sri Lanka Law College from November 2005 to December 2013, was ex officio the President of the Sri Lanka Chapter of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA). He received his B. A. Degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, LLB and LLM from the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo and his PhD in intellectual property law from the University of Queensland, Australia. His Doctoral research and Thesis was sponsored by the ‘Legal and Judicial Reforms Project’ funded by the World Bank and it was on copyright law in the digital era which was a comparative study of the law in Sri Lanka, Australia and the United States.

In addition, he received pedagogical training in methods of teaching law at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom on a fellowship awarded by the UNDP and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Further Education. He was also awarded a fellowship in 1984 by the Colombo Plan to attend a ‘module writers’ workshop at the Colombo Plan Staff College in Singapore where he developed a module on evaluation of students’ performance. He has also developed curricula and improved the quality of practical training at Sri Lanka Law College. He has made a substantial contribution to the legal literature.
